We Help Families Who Cannot Afford Extracurricular Activities for Their Children

The Donating Groups to Children project helps young people develop their personalities and provides opportunities for socialization. It operates on a voucher‑based system. Parents can apply for up to three vouchers worth CZK 500 each for their children aged 3 to 18, which can be redeemed at over 1,000 participating organizations. Activity providers include traditional children’s organizations, sports associations, and other institutions offering a wide range of activities.

To qualify for the support, families must be receiving child allowance, care allowance, foster care remuneration, or foster care allowance. The project targets not only domestic families but also refugee families from Ukraine, who must present a tolerance visa or a temporary protection visa.

Since its launch in November 2022, nearly 11,000 children have received support, sharing a total of CZK 19 million. The project is funded primarily through the support of significant partners. In addition to our foundation, these include Sazka, a.s., the City of Prague, the ŠKODA AUTO Endowment Fund, the Eva Pavlová Endowment Fund, and the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports of the Czech Republic. Individuals and companies can also support the project by contributing to the public collection on the darujme.cz platform.

“Public support is very important for the project. There are still many families who miss out on the allocated budget, and thanks to individual donors, we can help this specific group of parents,” says Ondřej Šejtka, Director of the Office of the Czech Council of Children and Youth, which organizes the project.

This project not only allows children to develop their talents and interests, boosting their self‑confidence and social skills, but also helps them establish values. “For most children, extracurricular activities are absolutely essential. It is often in this area that they begin to decide which values they will ultimately consider important in their lives,” says Jiří Zajíc, a renowned Czech educator, journalist, and scout.

Parents responded quickly to the call for the second half of the 2024/2025 school year, with the budget being exhausted within 18 hours. Those who did not manage to secure a contribution in time can still submit an application and join the waiting list. Any unused contributions will be returned to the budget and redistributed.
