How to create cities that serve everyone well? We helped explore answers to these questions in Hodonín during two seminars led by Osamu Okamura. The renowned Czech architect and urban planner engaged in discussions with architects, officials, other public space experts, and students about the most pressing challenges of modern cities.

The first seminar brought together representatives of the city of Hodonín, architects, and public space experts. Together, they discussed the city's most pressing urban planning needs and its potential for future development. The meeting aimed to strengthen the collaboration between our foundation and the city—not only Hodonín but also surrounding towns and municipalities.

The following day, a seminar was held for students and those interested in urbanism, architecture, and active citizenship. Through this event, our foundation inspired participants to reflect on how to create public spaces that consider environmental sustainability, urban quality of life, and community development.

Both seminars addressed key urban challenges, including monofunctional city zones, brownfields, suburbanization, industrial parks, sparsely populated cities, shrinking cities, traffic congestion, deteriorating environmental quality, and the neglect of public space.

"The greatest challenge for modern cities is their division into strictly residential, industrial, and recreational areas. This separation causes a significant transportation burden, as people must constantly commute between different locations throughout the day," said Osamu Okamura.

At our foundation, we believe that collaboration between experts and citizens is the key to creating sustainable and functional urban spaces. The ongoing recovery of Hodonín after the tornado, which we have been supporting in the long term, serves as an example of how well‑thought‑out urban planning interventions can positively impact both the community and the landscape.
