The school garden will align with the foundation’s mission, “A Garden is Also a Classroom,” reflecting the school’s style and educational program. It will be divided into several zones, including educational and relaxation areas. Plans include installing water features and adding greenery. The garden will feature multiple creative spaces using natural materials and a gazebo, which will serve as both a gathering space and an outdoor classroom. The city will receive financial support of 1.5 million CZK from the foundation for the project.
The redesign of the Třebechovická Kindergarten’s school garden is led by Rehwald Landscape Architects, specifically architects Radka Matoušková and Tomáš Černý.
"For the city, this is a pilot project and the first collaboration with the Komárek Family Foundation. We already know that we want to strengthen this partnership further. The goal is to create a school garden that functions as an extended classroom and can be used as effectively as possible. This transformation should not only provide a quality space for education and development but also a place for fun and relaxation," says Pavlína Springerová, the mayor of Hradec Králové.
Teachers and children from Třebechovická Kindergarten actively participated in the KKFF Foundation project, contributing their ideas for the garden’s redesign. The architects incorporated these suggestions into their proposal, which was presented to the school, parents, and the wider public on January 14, 2025, at Jesličky Theatre on Brandlova Street.
"Through the ‘Garden Transformations’ program, we are systematically preparing school gardens and their young users for future challenges. Our new approach allows us to create spaces tailored to the educational needs of each school while helping to develop children’s diverse competencies and strengthen their connection to the world around them," says Luboš Veselý, director of the KKFF Foundation, emphasizing that the garden’s transformation and its future development require collaboration with the school’s governing body. "Together with the city, the foundation plans to gradually expand this new strategy to other kindergartens in Hradec Králové," he adds.
The KKFF Foundation has over twelve years of experience in school garden renovations. It is now launching the ‘Garden Transformations’ program, designed to better respond to social, technological, and environmental changes while actively involving school administrators. Since 2012, the KKFF Foundation has helped renovate 22 school gardens across the Czech Republic.
Numerous institutions will be involved in the project, including the Faculty of Education at the University of Hradec Králové, the Secondary School of Musical Instrument and Furniture Design, and the Secondary School of Services, Trade, and Gastronomy. There are also plans to collaborate with Městské lesy Hradec Králové (Municipal Forests of Hradec Králové) and Hradecké služby (Hradec Services).
