Suburban Forest Park Bažantnice in Hodonín

A valuable piece of nature, which we carefully protect together with the help of our partners, will provide peaceful spots for rest as well as opportunities for active recreation. Rare and specially protected plant and animal species are thriving after the tornado, and nature is finding its own way to recovery.

About the Transformation

What we have planned

After the tornado, we are changing the function of the forest from economic to recreational. Visitors will appreciate trails for pedestrians, cyclists, and plenty of other opportunities for sports and leisure activities. An attractive new educational trail, guiding visitors through the most interesting parts of Bažantnice, will become part of this peaceful retreat. The area will also include an already completed pedestrian and cycling path running along Velkomoravská street.

Building a fully functional suburban recreational forest is a challenging yet beautiful journey. The biggest obstacle so far was the tornado, which destroyed half of the forest within minutes. After that, it was time for painstaking work and planning for forest restoration.

More about the transformation

The tornado struck just as the architectural study of the Bažantnice suburban forest project was being completed. The original plan immediately shifted to the restoration of 38 hectares of destroyed nature. Work began almost immediately. The first trees were planted in the autumn of 2021. By spring 2023, more than 85,000 trees had been planted. The forest itself is divided into sections that are interconnected by communication networks
