About the project
The Story of Our Pianos for Schools
In September 2020, following the visit of the Czech Senate President to Taiwan, a Chinese client refused to accept 8 upright pianos and 3 grand pianos. Our foundation purchased these Petrof instruments for 212,000 EUR and donated them to Czech schools.
Eleven schools selected by an expert committee received the instruments immediately. In November 2020, another 45 schools, whose musical instruments were in poor condition, were included in a public fundraising campaign. The campaign raised 394,200 EUR, which we further multiplied. As a result, all schools received new instruments.
The second round of the project began in October 2022. We selected 22 schools aiming to acquire instruments worth a total of 440,000 EUR. Thanks to immense donor support, the efforts of our foundation, and of course, the schools themselves, the project was again successful. To increase the impact of the project, a third grant call was launched in June 2024, with 17 more schools receiving the new instrument.
So far, we have helped fulfill the dream of owning a new instrument for 9,500 piano students from 95 elementary art schools across the Czech Republic. The schools have received 98 instruments with a total value of 1,681,216 EUR.
The Broader Context of the Project
This project also helps address a long‑term issue—outdated musical equipment in Czech elementary schools. At the time of the first fundraising round, the average age of school instruments was 46 years.
Public fundraising, always an integral part of the project, is a highly effective tool for engaging communities around elementary art schools. Their efforts to raise money for new instruments have always been entirely successful with our support. The campaign's conclusion is celebrated with beautiful musical events, filled with joy over a brand‑new piano or grand piano.
